A slice of history soon to be on the market

Thursday 30 May 2019

A 21-room, two-storey hotel is offering a slice of history through regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson Auctioneers.

The landmark Cliff Hotel in Penzance, Cornwall was used as a refuge by the Prime Minister of Norway during the Second World War.

The hotel, which has views of iconic St Michael’s Mount, is coming to market for the first time in nearly 100 years and was occupied by Johan Nygaardsvold, Prime Minister of Norway, who headed the Norwegian government in exile in London from 1940 to 1945 during the Nazi occupation of his homeland.

James Emson, Managing Director of Clive Emson Auctioneers said: “This hotel is a perfect example of the exciting properties which are coming to market through Clive Emson.

“We pride ourselves on offering something for everyone and, as well as historic landmark properties, we also have a huge range of residential and commercial buildings and land featuring in the June sale.

“Our packed salerooms are full of bidders – be they owner-occupiers, developers or buy-to-letters – all looking for that next purchase through our transparent auction process – so now is an ideal time to sell.”

Other highlights of the auction include:

  • The Dog & Gun pub, less than a mile from Maidstone town centre and with upper floors private accommodation and a beer garden with stage area
  • A two-storey, 12,500 sq ft former NatWest business centre with potential on a 0.73-acre site with supporting offices, meeting rooms and storage areas in Newport, Isle of Wight
  • Offered as an investment opportunity, the ground floor of the landmark former Luxor Cinema building in the centre of Lancing, West Sussex
  • A pair of half-finished semi-detached houses on Canvey Island, Essex
