Welsh Government announce a two-week fire-break – what does it mean for agencies?

Today, 19 October, First Minister Mark Drakeford announced that the Welsh Government will impose a two-week fire-break period which requires Welsh residents to stay at home from 6pm on Friday 23 October until Monday 9 November. House moves from 29 June in Scotland

The Scottish Government has announced that Scotland will move to the second stage of the coronavirus lockdown exit plan and this means a relaxation on restrictions on house moves from Monday 29 June 2020.

In a phased move to Phase Two, Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland said to the Scottish Parliament that the measures restart the economy and lay the groundwork for further changes to come.

Agents in Scotland should continue to prepare their businesses to reopen – looking at staffing and implementing social distancing measures in their offices.

Propertymark has worked with the Scottish Government to produce guidance and we will also be releasing overlaying advice to support members.

On 28 May 2020, the First Minister said that the conditions were there to allow Scotland to move into Phase One of its four-phase route-map out of the Coronavirus crisis. 

Phase one

This meant that businesses involved in the purchase, sale, letting, or rental of homes are permitted to prepare their staff and their premises for the relaxation of restrictions on housing moves, which might include:

  • undertaking travel to their premises to check for readiness
  • making changes to implement their safe operating procedures, such as putting up notices and protective screens, marking distances on the floor
  • briefing staff on safe operating procedures, virtually where at all possible to do so

Scotland will move to Phase Three when the virus is suppressed. This will allow non-essential offices to reopen, along with gyms, museums, libraries, cinemas, larger shops, pubs, and restaurants.
