Following on from the success of last year, the NAVA Novice
Auctioneer of the Year Competition 2011 took place on 29 September
at the Chesford Grange, Warwickshire.
It proved to be a nerve racking but thoroughly enjoyable event
for all!
The eight competitors were Marc Morrish, Toby Limbrick, Andrew
Sellers, Abigail Selwood, Richard Smailes, Andrew Parker, Darren
Crawford and Tim Hancock.
The competition consisted of four different lots: a Simmental X
Belgium Blue Heifer, a Pennsylvania Spice Cabinet with a 19th
century collection of 27 birds eggs, a commemorative armchair for
the Investiture of Charles as Prince of Wales at Caernavon Castle
and a Former Toilet Block Ford.
The competitors were judged on their ability to sell a number of
lots at auction, by the judging panel Richard Auterac, Mark Bridge
and Colin Young. The Judges commented that all competitors did
superbly well, but after deliberation the results led to Tim
Hancock from Wiltshire being runner-up and outright winner of the
Clive Emson NAVA Competition Rose Bowl being awarded to Abigail
Selwood from Derbyshire. Abigail also was awarded £250 prize
money and £250 to the charity of her choice Treats, who organise
treats for terminally ill children sponsored by Swindells
Auctioneers.
On winning the competition Abigail said: "I am delighted
to have won the NAVA Auctioneer of the Year competition, which has
given me the opportunity to practice my auctioneering skills and
the confidence to progress my career as an auctioneer."
Graham Penny, from Graham Penny Auctions added "I would like to
congratulate Abigail on winning the highly coveted title of
Auctioneer of the Year. Since she joined the company, she has
worked extremely hard on expanding her skills and experience and
this award really is the icing on the cake."
"Her knowledge and expertise will prove invaluable to the
company as we continue to expand both our auction and estate agency
divisions," added Graham.
Graham Penny Estates is the residential estate agency arm of the
Graham Penny Group and specialises in the sale of residential
properties throughout the East Midlands.
NAVA wish to express gratitude to both Edward Swindells and Tina
Waterfall for putting together the scripts for the competition and
to our sponsors: Clive Emson Auctioneers, Swindells Auctioneers,
ATG Media, Ei Group and Spiegl, as without the kind support they
offered, the competition would not have been possible.
We also wish to thank our excellent judging panel, bidders and
audience for their participation.
